1. Assume nothing, unless you like expensive smoke.
2. Get the manuals.. trace the circuits.
3.  If what you find is not correct according to the manual... then change it back to conform to the manual.

You have the original gear.. make it work in the original way,  using the manaul as your bible.

In this way you not only will have gear which works correctly,   but the next guy who comes along
hasn't got a puzzle.. or some stupid , ill-advised - undocumented changes to deal with.

I havent got time to dig mine out now and advise you... but I will tell you that the things as designed
work just fine.  ( I have the same radios including the wonderful all bander).

A trick I use.. is to take the schematics to the copy store.. and have them blown up to 11x17.
make a couple of copies.    Then you can use colored markers to allow you follow various wires
without any confusion.

When I have more time.. I will try to help with specifics.
