I didn't say that the original manufactured product included a separate
preamp. Neither the Interceptor or Interceptor B included a preamp for
either 6 or 2 meters. However, homebrew preamp nuvistor circuits were
common in the early 60's after the nuvistor was introduced in 1959. There
were also a number of "mom and pop" garage manufacturing operations that
were producing preamps and converters in that time frame.
I used my Interceptor B and AllBander the other night on 75 meters as the
receiver and the IC-756 PRO II as the transmitter. However, I spent toooo
much time just spinning the Eddystone dial back and forth for fun.

unusual addition.
It's been years since I looked inside either of my Interceptors (one of
each), never noticed that the original included a separate preamp if
that's what you're saying, Pete. Only some slight control and tube
differences come to mind. Or was it something included outboard?
Oddly, the B works noticeably better than the original Interceptor(which
works quite well), though that could be attributed to any number of
issues like aged components, alignment, etc.
The other surprising thing is how well the Allbander down(?)converter
works for HF reception. Speaker leaves a bit to be desired, but it's a
pretty decent set up considering.
