I think I have seen only one Climaster and that was at W2NSA (Mac now SK) in
Asbury Park, NJ. Mac had a lot of stuff and a direct line to Bil Harrison
at Harrison Radio. His model was a 62T10.
I had several conversations with Ed about some gear including the Clegg
Cruiser which was a high end converter. Ed said he had forgotten about the
cruiser stating that he had been involved with several a dozen different
companies making ham gear.
Yes, to W9RAN there was a cross-pollination between companies back then.
According to Frank Lester W4AMJ (SK) Hammarlund hired several from both P&H
and Elenco (the W9OHM version not the test gear outfit of today). One
fellow from Central Electronics went to work for B&W and came up with the
6100 design. Clegg and B&W were only miles apart so we can speculate.
The fellow from P&H had working on both the P&H amplifiers and the
VFO-Matic. He helped design the HXL-1 amp sold by Hammarlund. Lloyd
Hammarlund decided against
a Hammarlund version of the VFO-matic stating that there was little market
for transceiving with a separate RX and TX. There was an excellent article
on a generic VFO-matic in a 1965 CQ magazine.
