Use a 6V6, its an authorized swap from other manufacturers for the same 
ballast.

Mods are often floating around to improve the audio response.  Many are 
of questionable quality.

I found it a lot easier to look in the back pages of an RCA Tube Manual 
and go to the resistance coupled amplifier section and use the values 
listed for the 12AX7 & 12AU7 or their octal equivalents in an older 
manual.

Reports from the expanded response are great. You need a quality mike 
also to take advantage.
