Peter,
I had a Clegg 22er and loved it, but it was bit deaf
for my liking. To remedy this situation, I added a
pre-amplifier ahead of the nu-vistor. It was the
circuit right out of the handbook utilizing a 40673
(3N141) Dual Gate MOSFET device. I designed a PCB for
it and added it to a Heathkit HW-202 prior to adding
to the 22er. It made a significant difference in the
sensitivity of the rig and used it for years on AM and
FM with an external FM modulator.
