Thanks to all for your suggestions.  I have been offered a solution to 
the problem.  nice to know there are still folks out there who remember 
some of these BA cures.

BTW, i cleaned up the topside of the Ranger yesterday, looks great.  
Turned the TX over to take a look underside.  WOW, it looks like it just 
came from the factory, it's that clean.

One question, do you have to pull the VFO front cover off to replace 
those lamps?  One is kind of dim, left side but the right side seems 
bright enough.
