Love my 808. They will bury it with me. The first 20 years of playing with electronics I damaged so many boards/lifted traces using bulb and wick. I thought it was just par for the course.

Then I discovered the 808. What a treat. Go around a chip and in a few triggers of the switch the chip falls out. The desoldering process is so fast you practically cannot damage the board as is common when too much heat for too long is applied.

To me it is virtually fool proof (as long as the fool using it can use the drill after every use before it cools down). So fool proof for me, I've taken big chips out of perfectly good working boards just to test in another board to determine the problem. Then solder it back where it came from. No risk of damaging the chip with too much heat or the board.

Works a treat and Bob's your uncle (I've always wanted to say that).

Do keep it clean and it will reward your repair efforts 100 fold!

Has anyone on this list have/used one of these devices? Mine seems to work intermittently. Suggestions?
