[Boatanchors] HAKKO 808 Desoldering Gun

I've used one daily in my work for 8 or 9 years. A great tool. I've used
the 808, 300 and 301. Like others have said, keep it clean. When you
shut it off, make sure you clean the tip passage otherwise solder will
harden in the passage & might need to be drilled out. These tools work
but if yours isn't doing the job, it is probably clogged up somewhere.
Also you might sometimes need to examine/clean the valve plates as they
sometimes collect some dirt. Resist any temptation to use without a filter.

I've used a Hakko to remove parts from a 1N4148 to a SK50GARL065 IGBT
used in 10KVA inverters. Lately I've used the 301 to remove/replace
electrolytic caps and IGBTs in Tesla Roadster PEMs. Once you get skilled
with a Hakko, you can use them for almost any solder/unsolder job. But I
still like my "little" Weller. Tip1: Sometimes on the big stuff it helps
to preheat the board. Tip2: don't try with SMD stuff
