That same problem (under-damped meter) is, unfortunately, seen on many of
the lower priced transmitters. It drives me nuts!!!! I hate it. But I
don't have a solution at hand. Certainly a higher priced meter (i.e. not a
cheap iron-vane) is one solution. I have often thought of building a small
addon board to do what is need to tame the darned thing. And now that I am
restoring a number of rigs that opportunity is probably going to come up
again and soon. I frankly are not really big on maintaining my restored
rigs to all the original characteristics. I usually will NOT physically
hack them up but I do not mind making electrical improvements. I usually
build a document right along with the restoration and fully intend to give
that document to any future owner.
For your need, I would go with Ranger style meter (which is hopefully a bit
more well mannered. Do let us know what you decide to do and your results.
