Suggestion: Whenever you get a replacement, figure out a way to
bypass the meter any time other than when you are tuning up. That
will definitely prolong the life of the replacement!

Subject: [Boatanchors] Johnson Navigator Meter Question
I've got the Navigator on the bench for repair and I am bummed to find the
meter is dead. Ah darn! I haven't used it in many years. When I did, I
noted that the meter would flail itself to death with no dampening.
As far as I know there are no direct replacements. I've heard people
comment about the fragilexxxx junky meter over the years. Also it seems
that most of the Navigator photos I've seen are with a Ranger style
replacement meter. Sigh.
I'm thinking of just reassembling the meter in place and just watch the
output power to peak the grid current and dipping the plate. I'd rather
have a meter solution though.
If you've run into this problem, I would appreciate hearing about what you
did to resolve it.
Thanks. 73, Scott WA9WFA
