Stan, think of it as a training exercise! You get to use all of the weak 
signal tricks like turning the RF gain down to reduce the background noise 
and maybe inch the AF gain up a touch. You'll be surprised at what you can 
copy. Also, wide filters ( 2400 Hz SSB ) on CW reduce the noise level 
without reducing the signal. I am a regular on a couple of traffic nets and 
the sigs have been a few dB above the noise all year but we still manage to 
get a net in... Headphones are a must and for some reason it helps if you 
put your hands on the headphones while trying to copy a weak sig... hi hi
