Mike,

That knob is a reproduction / replacement for the SX-28 / 28A. The cross
section of the wheel is thicker and the spokes are heavier to try and reduce
breakage. The overall diameter of the knob is the same. The originals
have steps that are concentric to the wheel whereas most reproductions are
smooth. The original bakalite knobs were very susceptible to breakage.
Some reproduction knobs went so far as to completely fill in the area
between the spokes with a web to strengthen the knob.

Is this really a Hallicrafters Knob? Looks to me like a rheostat or variac
knob from which the metal pointer has been removed, and does not have the
Hallicrafters molded-in name under its rim.
