Packing materials that I use to ship a restored R-390a cost around $50.00.
Two boxes and tape from Uline, Styrofoam sheets from Home Depot cost about
$50.00. It takes an hour to cut sheets and pack. Then another hour to take
to UPS or Fed Up. I order 20 boxes of each of the two sizes at a time and
the shipping is about 2/3 the cost of the boxes. Shipping UPS charges
average $80.00 and I charge $150 including packing and shipping. This is

I'd respectfully suggest you haven't bought large boxes, styrofoam
insulation sheets or bubble wrap in a while. Not to mention the time cost of
actually packing a large radio.
Yes, shipping materials are worthless to the recipient (except for the fact
their precious radio did not arrive as a "kit"), but they cost a good bit
more than nothing.
