Preston,
You are on the correct site. I see that you have already received
input concerning a suitable military supply and some battery setups.
The T-195s originally came with a pair of internal mechanical
dynamotors and thus required a 24 - 28 vdc power source that could
supply the initial starting surge (100A +) that goes with those
devices. Later units came with solid-state replacements and many
older units were retrofitted with solid-state internal supplies
especially the 1000 vdc unit. If the T-195 you acquire has been
retrofitted with solid state supplies (both internal units) you may be
able to use a 50 amp switching type primary power supply. Don't try
to use a "switcher" with the mechanical dynamotors, though, unless
augmented with batteries as others have described.
You can use a pair of smaller (25 - 30 amp) supplies with the T-195.
The internal load is split into two internal circuits that are brought
out separately to the input power connector and the two loads are
almost evenly balanced. I ran my first T-195 this way for a number of
years.
Also note that the T-195 was designed for mobile use and will operate
over a 22 - 32 volt input range, i.e., not fussy about regulation. A
simple brute-force supply -- husky transformer, rectifier stack and
150,000 - 200,000 mfd of capacity for a filter will work FB.
