According to the manual, the bridge is operated on the '54 VAC' winding of the transformer.Keep in mind that the smallest resistor typically 
found in electronics of the day was a 1/2W.  If there is more than 1/2W dissipation in test, then you probably should be testing on another 
range!!  :-)
