If you Google a bit, this turns up:
MIL-V-173 - there are apparently two formulations. Basically it's a
phenol-formaldehyde (Bakelite-like) resin and Tung oil.
The solvent for the uncured stuff is:
Name:NAPHTHA, SOLVENT
CAS:8052-41-3
RTECS #:WJ8925000
= Wt:29.
OSHA PEL:2900 MG/M3;500 PPM
ACGIH TLV:525 MG/M3;100 PPM
Name:LIGHT AROMATIC SOLVENT NAPHTHA (PETROLEUM)
CAS:64742-95-6
RTECS #:WF3400000
= Wt:20.
Name:METHYL ETHYL KETOXIME
CAS:96-29-7
RTECS #:FL9275000
< Wt:.5
So you MIGHT TRY a mix of MEK and lighter fluid. No guarantees. It might
not work because the varnish may polymerize as it dries.
FWIW,
-John
