[Boatanchors] EBay links

Duane,

For what it is worth, my recollection was that the issue revolved around
people posting a link for something they were selling. I am 100% in favor of
banning that. I would also suggest that 10 years ago Ebay was in its infancy
(more or less) and advertising a link helped sales. Now I think most astute
buyers have set up automatic searches etc. and the push on the list is not
needed.

That being said, as in this case, some really odd, funny or comically
described stuff shows up from time to time. If it involves Bas I personally
enjoy that and don't see it a s promotion of the item in question. I also
cannot find a prohibition of EBay in the rules and even if it was there fail
to see how it impacts the list owner any more than an outright add here for
which no payment is required

Rather than broad brushing everyone why not let it be known that EBay links
that are promotional in nature are not allowed. If someone flaunts that rule
drop the person.

The problem is, once the door is opened all control seems to go away. "You
let X post, so why can't I?" And so forth.

This was tried a decade ago and it did not work. The battles and arguing
nearly destroyed the list. Personally I do not care to go through that
again.

For what is worth, there is a list on 'mailman.qth.net' just for EBAY links,
comments or whatever. Guess what? Nobody liked that either! As far as I know
that very list is still here, so go there and post all the EBAY related
stuff you feel inclined to do.
