Well Rob, a good question...  there are two purposes it seems. 
1) Make newcomers feel excluded, but THEN make them feel SPECIAL once they learn all 
the Q codes, buzz words, operating procedures, get a ticket etc. They belong to a special 
club then!

2) Make hams look like geek-buffoons and goofy cartoon characters, which is how most of 
the world sees us (LOL!)
