Actually, Johnson did label the "Viking I" and later the "Viking II" as
shown. But, you are correct in that Johnson never labeled the Ranger as a
"Ranger I".
Early Rangers did not have the additional two tubes and circuitry for the
keyer and bias upgrade so early schematics would not show this. Later
Rangers had the keyer and bias upgrade incorporated into the circuitry
and so the later schematic incorporated all that circuitry and
interconnections and some other component changes.
