It will still work in ssb mode without that tube. I recommend removing it until you get the correct one.

Yes, Steve. It's close to dead on Diode (AM) Mode. Product Detector mode is much better. I am hoping the new 6BF6 will fix that.

Will I do any damage if I keep the 6BE6 in the V-6 slot until I get the 6BF6?

V6 is the AM detector. I bet you are hearing SSB and CW via the product detector just fine. , V7 but not AM when in AM (DIODE) mode. So put a 6BF6 in V6's socket. Perhaps the former owner just wanted to populate the sockets with one of those glass things that light up? I'm refering to the red switch on front, PROD/DIODE. Put it in DIODE. Bet it's dead.

    Guys:

There seems to be a misunderstanding.

According to the manual and the stamp on the chassis, V-6 is supposed to be a 6BF6. There is currently a 6BE6 in the V-6 socket. I do not have a spare 6BF6 but have ordered one.

Thus, I am not suggesting that I subtitute a 6BF6 for a 6BE6. Rather, I am only noting that there is currently a 6BE6 in the 6BF6 socket. I checked with a magnifying glass and I am not misreading the number of the tube currently in the V-6 socket.

    Weird, huh?
