Subject: Re: [Boatanchors] DRAKE 2B Tube substitutions
Guys:
There seems to be a misunderstanding.
According to the manual and the stamp on the chassis, V-6 is supposed to be
a 6BF6. There is currently a 6BE6 in the V-6 socket. I do not have a spare
6BF6 but have ordered one.
Thus, I am not suggesting that I subtitute a 6BF6 for a 6BE6. Rather, I am
only noting that there is currently a 6BE6 in the 6BF6 socket. I checked
with a magnifying glass and I am not misreading the number of the tube
currently in the V-6 socket.
Weird, huh?

OK, sorry; Id thought you had V-7, the 6BE6 right next to V-6 confused.
There is still no way it would work if they were reversed. A previous owner
likely misread, installed the wrong tube and then tossed the radio in a
pile.
Another thing that contributes to overload is that the pentode section of
V-2 is used as a 2nd RF amp on 80M. Having 3 6BE6's doesnt help either and
Im still a bit confused about the dual AVC circuits, havent had time to
redraw but it would be interesting to hang a 4 trace scope on that radio.
