Welllll, that depends.  For instance, if you're into the sound card
digital modes, the newer radios like IC-7200 and TS-590S that have
the sound hardware built in and reachable over a USB interface are
really cool.  All you need is the computer and the radio and a USB
cable, none of the SoundBlaster or SignaLink or homemade interface
boxes.

And the newer radios with DSP in the IF give you a lot more control
over the bandwidth than do older radios that give you just two or three
filters to choose from.

But then personally I really enjoy my second-hand Kachina transceiver
that is less versatile than the newer radios.
