I have one and I can confirm that I went through a couple of new 6C4 tubes to find one that worked well in the receiver so it is a true Hammarlund.
The greatest restoration issue was cleaning and lubricating the tuning mechanism followed by the restringing of those special drive cords.
Performance is OK. I got mine for a good price locally and at that price it scores OK on the performance per dollar paid ratio but if you had to purchase it at ebay auction pricing I have a feeling a S-19R would provide a much better performance per dollar ratio :)
One oddity is that it is single conversion on the low frequency ranges (below 2.2 Mhz) with its very low 52 khz. IF but I haven't noticed any images. I came across this while I was restoring it and thought I might end up with the only communications type receiver that suffered from poor image rejection on the broadcast band.
