[Boatanchors] Capacitors

If you order on-line the order has to wait for a human to handle it. Sometimes, this adds up to over a day. The staff at Mouser recommends using their 800 number and talking to a human. That way, even before you hang up the telephone the order is already down in the shipping department.
What I do is to look in the hard copy catalog (their website can be confusing at times) and then write down the part numbers. Then I check the website for availability. While I still have the website on the screen I telephone them. There have been a very few times where the availability on the website has been wrong. Not many, but it has happened. Then, when the human suggests an alternative I can immediately see just what it is on the website.
If you don't have a copy of the catalog, just ask for one and their equivalent of the New York City telephone directory will arrive! The catalog gets larger every edition. They print new catalogs about every 2-months and if you have been ordering from them you will get a new one just as soon as they are printed.

I buy from Mouser all the time too. I live in Houston. The average shipping charges are around $7.00. I ordered some parts this last Thursday evening and I had them the next day which was last Friday. I always order on line as I can see if the part is in stock or not. If not, I usually pick out a substitute. One thing happening though is, they have less and less axial high voltage electrolytic capacitors and their prices are rising on some of them sharply. Because of this, I just ordered $200 worth of high voltage electrolytics and resistors from Just Radios this week. For a decent size order they won't charge you shipping. I paid for regular shipping and they sent my order out Air Mail for the same amount as Surface mail. At one time there was not much difference in price between these two companies. There is a BIG difference for some values of capacitors now. Also Just Radio has now started caryying resistors as well as
capacitors. On modest sized orders, Just R
adios gives you a discount for goods purchased. It also seems as though Newark Electronics does not seem to be temporarily out of things as much as Mouser. Mouser will back order if you wish and send the first backorder freight free. However if a second item was backordered, you will pay shipping charges for it when available. Mouser will hold the entire order and ship once when all backorders are received if you wish this to happen.
