It wasnt even thought of until the Korean War and the V-I  had already been 
on the market for 5 years.

Correct plus it didnt come out until after a June 1952 QST article.

I dont even think they knew. The V-II wasnt even a planned product, it came 
about due to the 4D32 unavailability plus it included all the TVI minimizing 
items which suddenly became very important to all hams. The chassis is pure 
V-1 with minimal changes. In fact the 6146 sub assembly was sold as a V-1 
update; the 6146 was introduced in late 51 if I remember.

It is rather interesting that Collins had the clout to continue obtaining 
the 4D32 during its full 32V series production life.

I had a V-1 and HQ-129X in the late 50's and have replicated that station 
here including a modern interpetation of the dual 250TH amp I built in 57.
