I have never seen a Apache or DX-100 go unsold on eBay for at least
$100
plus shipping. If you are willing to pack and ship it someone will buy
it if
it is in working condition. If not in working condition or not near
working
condition then parting it out would be fine. Heavy radios get sold and
shipped on eBay all of the time.

Hi Tom,
I'm preparing to ship an Apache right now. I'm trading it for a radio
that might have a lower value on Ebay and maybe weighs a little less. If
we want to play with working radios and trade/sell them then we are
going to pay the freight. The shipping for an Apache or DX-100 (mine is
going into my estate sale some day) is a little high for a straight give
away in the usual case, but many hams drop goodies in the mail every day
and just give them away. Even more do that for just the postage. This is
really just an extension of that process.
My question for the OP is "why would you chop up a perfectly good radio
just because it can't be shipped for free?" If you can't afford to pay
the shipping (not a crime) that doesn't mean the ham who wants it can't
pay for it. Anything on the planet can be shipped - houses, locomotives,
etc... just to date nobody has offered to pay the shipping for moving Mt
Everest to Brazil.
