The problem with any low frequency ferrite core IF is that the core 
permeability changes slightly over time. This almost makes a sweeper and 
scope mandatorty to align to the new IF frequency.

Hallicrafters and National both suffer from this and some sets of no 
particular model seem to stay put. However the National 230kc cup cores are 
by far the worse to try and get back to spec, it usually requires careful 
selection of silver micas of 1-2% tolerance.
