The SX-28 is a thing of beauty through symmetry. The large center dial
balanced by the smaller S-meter and bandspread dials bracketing it.
The evenly-placed knobs culminating in the dual steering wheels for
tuning and bandspread. All topped off by arching, backlit dials, the
psuedo-leather crackle finish front panel with its slate blue-gray
color, all wrapped in an appropriate cabinet with a hint of Art Deco
trim.
It's also more or less cube-shaped, which gives it a fuller, less
'stretched' look. Interestingly, the later SX-115 follows many of the
same cosmetic designs and is equally easy on the eyes, IMO.
IIRC, the designation for the base folks are referring to for the
SX-42 is the B-42. It works equally well with the SX-62, SX-101, or
other Halli rigs using the same cabinet as the 42. With all the clever
machinists in our midst, I'm surprised someone hasn't started offering
reproductions.
