[Boatanchors] 11 meter amps ? Re: [AMSWAP] FS: Panel Meters

My recollection, perhaps mistaken, is that the same person with the panel
meters also had 11 meter gear for sale that could easily be used on 10
meters.

My annoyance is the prevalence of Craigslist offerings in the SF Bay Area of
amplifiers and transceivers that have either already been converted to also
cover 10 meters or that are advertised emphasizing that they can be
converted to operate on 10 meters. And the advertisements are NOT aimed at
hams but at CBers.

It's strictly illegal by the way to sell items of that sort to anybody
including hams. I haven't looked at eBay lately but several years ago it
was obvious that the people auctioning that type of gear were aiming at
CBers. I had a running exchange of e-mail with the then eBay lawyer about
the fact that they were breaking the law and also a couple of exchanges of
e-mail with the FCC about that. I think/hope that they have cleaned up
their act since then.

I was happy to see that one of the eBay merchants I reported to the FCC was
subsequently cited and fined by the FCC for that continuing action.

As the sunspot cycle improves propagation we will likely again have the
competition of the illegal operation by CBers on the 10 meter ham band.

By the way, has anybody else who reads this list ever operated on 11 meters
AS A HAM LEGALLY?? I used to do cross band with Australia and New Zealand
in the 1950s when I was on 10/11 meter AM with a DX-35. Full duplex 11
meter to 10 meter. A lot of fun operating that way but with the prevalence
of SSB and VOX not that novel these days...
