I had the same need about a year ago when I was completing a home brew  
tubed xmtr.  I searched high and low, tried plastics houses and archery  
ranges.  I finally found the perfect material, at the local Big 5 (sporting  goods 
store).  It was a 6" long white fiberglas stick, 1/4" in diameter,  with a 
orange flag on the end of it.  It's original purpose was a  visability aid 
for a bicycle.  Perhaps that will work for you.
