[Boatanchors] GPR-90 Vs R-390A

As Todd stated, there is no comparison between the two receivers.  That is not to say the GPR-90 is not a good receiver because it is.  It is just not a great receiver like the R-390A.  The drift he mentioned can be reduced by adding an always-on filament transformer for the VFO tube.   That was done to the example I have.  The sensitivity and the mechanical filters of the R-390A are hard to beat however the GPR-90, when used with the GSB-1 sideband adapter make a very usable SSB receiver.  I have that combination and their matching speaker paired with a 100V.  I wrote an article for ER (#120 April 1999) if you want more GPR-90 info.

There were many Boat Anchors at the Shelby/Dallas, N.C. Hamfest this past weeknd. I saw a very nice GPR-90, first one in many years. Just wondered, from those who know, how do these two receivers compare?
