There are NiCad batteries that have been made for over 15 years that are 
used very heavily in R/C electric racing cars and electric powered aircraft.

They are specifically "Sub-C" batteries.  Sanyo made a large number of 
these.  I'm sure there are others.

Try your local Hobby Shop!  I'm sure you'll find the Sub-Cs quite bountiful!
