Instrument makers, and Simpson in particular, sure seem to like to use
odd batteries. I have a couple of Simpson T-360 meters made for
Western Union. These are a FET-VOM sort of thing and uses two AA cells,
one D cell, and one PT battery, which is about the size of a C cell
and puts out 9 volts. I've adapted it to use an ordinary 9V battery.

Then I have a T2180 multimeter, also made for Western Union, that
runs on AC or rechargeable batteries. The batteries, which I don't
have, appear to be about the size of a C or D cell in diameter but
shorter such that four cells fit in the space that would be occupied
by three C or D cells.
