Icom made some FM XCVRS back in the mid-70s (IIRC)
that were commonly called "draggie-talkies." These
were IC-202 for 2m SSB/CW=2C IC-402 for 70cm SSB/CW=2C
and IC-215 for 2m FM. I think there may have also been
an IC-502 for 6m SSB/CW. These all used nine "C" cells
to provide a nominal 13.5 VDC for the radio.

Icom also made an optional BC-20 rechargable battery and
charger setup for these. The charger fit into one of the
battery slots that held three of the "C" cells in series
and put five each of 6/10 "C" size NiCd cells in each of
the remaining two spaces normally used for three each of
the "C" cells. This gave about 14.0 VDC when just fully
charged and dropped to 12.0 at the time the battery pack
was basically expended.

The cells that originally came with my new BC-20 were made
by Sanyo.
