The repackaged SX-28A for airborne service is the ARR-7 and it was a
stand-alone intercept receiver, not used in conjunction with the ATC.
The ARR-15 is a Collins manufactured, Collins PTO equipped receiver.
It has the same number of channels pre-settable as the ATC and were
used with the ATC in Navy aircraft, post WW2. The drawback of the
ARR-15 is the lack of selectivity. It's stable, preset channels are
reliably repeatable. It works well on CW with an external audio filter
like the SCAF.
I don't know of any mods, and I'm not even interested in them.
Original military equipment in my possession stays original and is
used as issued with the exeption of internal passive components
replaced with modern manufactured parts during repair, or maybe
non-JAN tubes of the same type if necessary.
I don't know about prevalent prices, but I got mine in almost pristine
original condition for $75 at Dayton, 5 years ago. It was just plug
and play after lubricating the dynamotor first...
Your ATC would be correct to operate with the RAX series receivers as
well in Navy aircraft configuration, and also with the ARB receiver.
