[Boatanchors] Removing knob with steel set screw

Ian,

Can you get a piece of string or harness lacing slid between the knob 
and the panel?  Perhaps do this from two different directions, 
essentially twice, and use that to apply tension to the knob.

This particular problem turns up on MANY different pieces of equipment 
and turns out to be the set screw was tightened too far, upsetting metal 
on the shaft.
