[Boatanchors] New official acronym

Back when I was with IBM in the 70s, they made the changeover to FRU
replacements and we started teaching that with little theory of how =
things
worked. The old techs didn't take to well to it. Troubleshooting was =
done
with map charts that had the tech measure levels with a colored light =
device
and then respond to the map questions. The techs referred to each =
machine
by its complexity as a "one banana" or "two banana" box. They felt like
monkeys without any recognized technical abilities responding to the =
banana
stimulus. IBM was always ahead of the times on things like that.

Strange, was just talking about that very same problem no less than an
hour ago with a young technician asking about a job. It entailed "down
to the component" skills and he wondered why. All his current work is
done with module replacment. Said had some very large Tupperware
tubs full of modules they carry for "fixing" things. Only problem I =
guess,
they don't know what to do if the module does not cure outage. Humm
guess the '50s and '60s training might come back around.
