[Boatanchors] On topic again - BA antenna question

I agree completely with Perry.  Let's keep this list for Boat Anchors, not politics.
  
Does anyone on the list have experience with the "ground-plane independent vertical antennas", particularly the Cushcraft R-8 with medium power BAs such as the Valiant or Globe King 500C?
