[Boatanchors] Hallicrafters SX-28 S-meter

A band of material sounds like a good approach. I have a similar flaring 
problem on a Hammarlund HQ-120X meter.
Do they make heat shrink tubing that large? A carefully controlled heating 
of heat shrink will pull in the meter staves with or maybe without a band of 
metal.

I have a Hallicrafters SX-28 whose S meter housing has split open, looking
like the staves on a barrel.
I'm considering making a "band" of thin metal with tabs to insert screws to
clamp it closed around the meter housing. Does anyone know of a better 
repair/replacement scheme?
