Ed and group,
I don't own the 122 anymore, but I recall there was one resistor that
was underrated at 2w and that should be upgraded to a 5w or 10w size.
No longer have the schematics, so I can't be specific. If you're
replacing caps, pay particular attention the the NP0 ones if they are
replaced. It's possible to get the dial tracking out of whack and
possibly out of range for adjustment. I recall my 122 was stable after
10-15 minutes of warmup. I used it with the Viking II and with great
success. Nice VFO.
YMMV.

Subject: [Boatanchors] JOHNSON MODEL 122 VFO RE-CAP
Has anyone done a re-cap on a Johnson Viking Model 122 VFO? Mine is
working, but unstable, drifts, and has a mild chirp. Other than that,
it's working fb.
I've already cleaned the Bandswitch and variable capacitor grounds
with De-Oxit, which helped quite a bit. I think the instability might
be fixed by re-establishing good chassis grounds. Not sure about
fixing the mild chirp - that may come from the voltage regulator. I
suspect the drift can be fixed or improved with the addition of the
appropriate capacitors.
Any references or suggestions would be appreciated.
Tnx es 73,
ed - k9ew
