assume the flicker would be annoying if you ran the LEDs on 60 Hz AC.

current limiting resistor and a silicon diode in reverse across the LED as
they do not like more than about 5 Volts inverse.With a diode across the
LED,the flicker would not be noticeable as it would be 30Hz.
