[Boatanchors] Portable power & Hamfests?

Hi all:

Wish to use my 706M2G in portable operation...for approx. 8 hours at a 
time...alongside my Suburban...with a TAK-tenna erected on its roof.

Would appreciate your recommendations on what kind of "power pack" is most 
User friendly..that is, easily rechargeable at the motel during the night, 
afterwards.

Also, would like to know which Hamfests - this side of the Mississippi - are 
worth attending as I need to arrange my schedule accordingly.
