On second thought, you might test any of the big filter caps in the power 
supply. I know you said you just replaced them with new (they're new, as 
opposed to N.O.S., right?), but if all is well until the recitifier starts 
to conduct, the power supply caps are very suspect as the source for the 
short. Hopefully so, as they'll be much easier to troubleshoot & replace 
than the choke or other stuff downstream.
