Howdy Hallitossians ! I just recapped my very "nice"
and clean Hallicrafters SX 99. When I got it, it
wasn't functioning and the S meter was not working
(stuck about 2/3 scale) . I sent the meter to have it
fixed by our friend in New York at the Sound Company.
He did a good job.
Today, I recapped the SX 99 and "Bingo" it works!!
Sensitive and stable. I made one mistake and put a
.022 cap at C 61 instead of the .22 that was there.
The wrong cap is still there, but will be replaced.
All functions, on phone, AVC, sensitivity, volume,
selectivity, Crystal phasing, tone control,
receive/standby work as they shoulod. BUT, when the
phone/CW switch is switched to CW the receiver goes
silent instead of engaging the BFO. There is no audio
and the BFO doesn't produce a hetrodyne on a signal
with a carrier , in fact, audio completely disappears
exactly and the S meter pins at S9+ 60db. the audio
disappears and the meter pins EXACTLY AS IT DOES WHEN
THE RECEUVE/STANDBY SWITCH IS SWITCHED TO STANDBY.
All the cw/sphone switch does is connect the plate of
the triode section of V5 to the grid of V4, the second
IF . I may be missing something, but I see no reason
for the receiver going dead when switched to CW.
Any suggestion will be pursued. Thanks and 73, John,
K5PGW
