Roger-
The ceramic disc capacitor looking device is called an
MOV, Metal Oxide Varistor. You are correct in that
they make several different types by AC voltage
rating. The more popular ones were about 130 to 150
VAC rating to limit the initial power up 120 VAC line
surge.
I worked for Electronic Parts Co. in Albuquerque, NM
for sixteen years, then four years at The Shack. They
have a multitude of uses as you can imagine for old
vacuum tube type radios, TV's, etc.
As Bob Hope would say, "Thanks for the memories."
Hope this helps you Roger.

****** MOV is a corruption of General Electrics GE-MOV which is a
registered trade mark.MOVs are not inrush limiters, rather they are transient
voltage suppressors, see the Transient Voltage Suppression Manual published
by GE.
