The "ceramic disc capacitor looking device" can ALSO be a negative 
temperature coefficient thermistor inrush limiter, which is exactly what 
Roger was talking about.  His usage of them is correct and entirely 
appropriate.  MOVs go across the line or from line to ground, not in series.
