At $59.00 the Heil conversion kit is a wee bit expensive. Of course,
you are getting an impedance matching transformer that you will need in
order to use the Heil element with our old boatanchors. This is not a
simple "pop in the new element and go" conversion.

When my last D-104 element gives up, I plan to order a couple of the
crystal and ceramic elements that Mouser carries. The Kobitone elements
are cheap enough to be worth doing a bit of experimenting. Mouser's
25LM025 is a Crystal element with a 30-15KHz response and an impedance
of 12K, a sensitivity of -55db and is 1inch diameter by .42 in thick and
sells for $3.83. Mouser's 25LM037 is a Ceramic element with very
similar characteristics and sells for $3.91. These elements are close
enough to the original D-104 specs to make giving them a try very
attractive.

The only connection I have to Mouser is that my cat sometimes answers to
that name...and then sometimes she doesn't. :-)
