[Boatanchors] RE: Boatanchors Digest, Vol 16, Issue 24

All: I had a Knight T-60 as my first transmitter about 38 years ago. It did
an adequate job, although it took what seemed to be a enormous amount of VFO
drive to work correctly. As a crystal-controlled rig, it worked fine (mine
even worked OK on 6m).

 Hi Gang,

Many thanks to all who responded to my message asking for information
regarding keeping inventory of vacuum tubes.
I really appreciate all the ideas presented!

In Aug of 2003, kwylow zinjanthropus was going to have a run of T-50 panels
silk-screened. Whether he did or not, I don't know. His name is Cal,
and I believe he is still active on the QTH boatanchors list. He goes
by the e-mail name of "kwylow zinjanthropus", and as of that time his
e-mail address was catman351 at nospam
GL,
Tom

I came across a "review" of the Knight T-60 on page 58
in the December 1962 issue of Popular Electronics.
The last 2 sentences in the first paragraph pretty
much "sums up" the bands and power:

"Reasonably priced at $49.95, the Knight-Kit T-60
transmitter is designed for 80- through 6-meter
operation. Its 60 watts input power and frequency
coverage make it suitable for the Technician and
General Class ham as well.

I am only getting around 10k to 15k file transfer speeds from either of
the bama sites. Using my browser or a couple different ftp programs I
get the same.

Anyone else see these slow speeds? I have tried different days and
different times too.

Thanks for any help

Hello all,

I have a boatanchor receiver for trade only................ The Receiver
is
a part of the AN/ARC-5 types and is, in particular, a CBY-46145. It is
unique in that it covers from .52 to 1.5 Mc. The AM broadcast band (before
recent expansion). This receiver is complete and in extremely good shape.
Cosmetically it rates a 9 out of 10. The dynamotor is attached. The front
panel
adapter is an FT-260-A.

Black crinkle finish, with appropriate tags. Only minor scratches
consistent with its age are present. It is unmodified. I have never
applied power to
it.

I am looking for an EICO 730 modulator. Must have both power and
modulation
trannnys in working condition. Must not be a junker or something that has
been butchered and modified. No extra holes, resistors, wires and tube
sockets....... I expect it to be working but perhaps needing only filter
caps in
order to restore. Cosmetics should be 8+. No rusty chassis or poorly
painted
covers expected. Tubes should be in above average condition.

Anyone interested????????/

Thanks es 73 de W4MIL

Chuck

That is about all I see here Gary with DSL. It is slower than it was some
months back.

Gang --

Bad news -- Initial smoke test of my Invader produced.....smoke!

I popped the fuse on the LV Power Chassis and had some smoke coming from the
compartment housing R61 on the Invader. R61 look cracked, but not burned,
and I replaced it. The sniff test indicated this was not the culprit, but
it ohmed out at 33 ohms, not the 1K it was supposed to be.

The 300V line on the LV supply was blown, and I tracked it down to the
5U4 -- it tested dead on both sides. I performed voltage check on the LV
supply before installing another tube, and all was OK. After the new 5u4
was installed, all voltages from the LV chassis was good (high, but I didn't
have a load on it).

I then proceeded to do the resistance checks as per the manual. Every
measurement associated with the 300 / 150V circuit was really high. By
removing the 0A2, I was able to check the 150V circuit and the dropping
resistors associated with it are good.

My problem is the 300V circuit. With the 0A2 out of the circuit, and all
cables removed from the Invader chassis, I should see essentially infinite
resistance between the 300V supply of the LV cable connector (J3 pin 5) and
ground. I'm measuring about 33K ohms. I get about 39K from 0A2 pin 5
(with the OA2 removed); again, I expect to see almost an open.

I need some help in understanding what could be causing this in order to
know what to look for.

I think there are a few Invader 2K owners on the group; if so, can you do a
check on the 0A2 pin 5 and let me know what you getting?

Thanks

Mark K3MSB
