Sounds to me like the guy wanted to sell the receiver, not retire off
it. Folks will seldom restore a receiver without some idea of its
value. Maybe his view of 'value' or market value was a more moderate,
realistic view that weighs the $1000 ebay prices with the
equally-unrealistic $5 garage sale prices or 'free to whoever hauls it
away' valuations. I bet it was the paint job! (o:

The whole market value/investment value thing really cracks me up.
Someone put it pretty clearly a while back when they said 'these
things are only valuable to us, and when we're gone, who will care?'.
My definition of market value: what you can get from a buyer for a
given item, at a given time, in a given place.

Enjoy what you have, while you have it. Buy/sell at a price you're
comfortable with. Remember the old saying "Living well is the best
revenge <for death>".
