[Boatanchors] Number of amateur radio operators in the United States

Group,

I was out of town and missed the middle part of this thread so don't know 
what started it.  But to put that (insignificant looking??) 0.224% figure into 
perspective, the most recent (20050707) Status of Forces figures (abbreviated) 
for the United States Navy are:

Active Duty: 363,630
Ready Reserve: 142,094
Selected Reserve: 78,323

Total: 584,047

So there are more Hams than Sailors.
